The story of the Tropicarium
The idea of the Tropicarium is associated with a Hungarian businessman living in Sweden, Károly Farkasdi. He and his family developed and implemented the unique content that Tropicarium represents in 1990 in Kolmården, and in 2000 in Budapest. The zoo shows the freshwater fish world, including domestic fauna, the world of the tropics and the incredible species richness of the seas. Hundreds of animal species can be admired in 8 halls, with exceptional facilities such as ray caresses and tropical rain.
Building
Intensive construction work took place for 8 months from September 1999. Tropicarium, one of the largest marine aquariums in Central Europe, opened its doors on May 26, 2000 at the Campona Shopping Center. Hundreds of tons of concrete and iron were installed and filtration and purification equipment and IT systems with special state-of-the-art technology were provided to ensure trouble-free operation. Most of the decoration was hand-made by Tropicarium experts.
